Hi
Just had a lesson on my horse. I was having a chat with my Riding Instructor and mentioned the proposal for the airstrip as we can see the footpath from the arena, I also mentioned that this could be a new Maypole.
She proceeded to tell me she use to teach at the livery yard at Maypole and was always very surprised how for a small private airstrip it was always so busy. In the space of her teaching hour there was 3 planes taking off and landing
She said it was busier in the summer as the ground was often too wet in the winter. She also mentioned there was always a lot of noise as the pilots would be tinkering with their engines or repairing bits, so often banging or engines running.
Not sure how green this sounds to me.
What the residents see in the skies are birds and buzzards. More than one plane would be busy to us. I am sure there are many areas of rural Kent that like Mongeham still have tranquility. It is why we live here and didn't move to be next to an airstrip
Based upon what evidence? You consistently pull people up on this forum for unsubstantiated facts, or using reports in the media. You should hold yourself to the same standards.
For your information, there are no buses driving past my house along willow woods Road, and also no planes flying at low level over it. If Mr Hoskins plans are given approval, there will be planes flying at a low level over my house. The noise of bus vs plane has no relevance in my case.
What is relevant is the noise of birdsong vs a low flying
I doubt there is much similarly between the noise of a bus and a plane!
Reading an article in The Flyer about the Maypole Airport uncovered the following statements: "The airfield was popular as a stopover before cross-Channel flights" and
“We have managed to secure alternative hangar spaces elsewhere, for all the residents at Maypole, should they decide to take up the option,” Something to consider when DDC and the applicants publish the full planning application.
Rather than quote hearsay, hard evidence would be better wouldn't it?
and it does depend on your definition of what constitutes "busy" doesn't it?
The claim is that Maypole was "busy" with 3 aircraft taking off and landing in an hour. That's 6 movements total, perhaps one every 10 minutes or so.
Whilst this may have happened occasionally, it certainly wasn't the norm or regular at Maypole.
Imagine standing by a road or railway and there is a bus or a car every ten minutes or so, and not all the time, not every single hour, just now and again. Hardly "busy" is it?
I get the impression that this will be at least as busy, if not more so. Also this proposal is a business venture, not a few enthusiasts coming along for a jolly every now and again when it takes their fancy.
Extremely helpful in helping us unpick the fantasy claims that the applicants are making. This is obviously the reality. Thank you so much for sharing.
